What effect can you have working for us?
The focus of the Hamm-Lippstadt University of Applied Sciences as an educational institution is on training and preparing young people for their professional life. Our staff and employees contribute to this in a variety of ways. This applies no matter whether conveyed directly in teaching by one of our professors, lecturers or research assistants, at our central service facilities or as an indispensable part of the university administration that strings all the threads together. We are also invested in research: Acquiring and applying new knowledge and thus making a positive contribution to society are equally important goals for staff and employees at the University of Applied Sciences Hamm-Lippstadt. This is reflected in our “Third Mission”, within the scope of which our knowledge and skills in academic education are made accessible to the everyday person, for example through the further education courses offered at our Academy for Advanced Training.

What kind of employer are we?
As a University of Applied Sciences, our particular focus is placed on the region around the cities of Hamm and Lippstadt. Although our 5,000 students hail from all corners of the world, as a rather small university in Germany, we focus on local networking with companies and a family-like atmosphere on and around our campus. The profile of the programs we offer is geared towards natural sciences and engineering. We lead our students to academic success in a hands-on manner and in small groups. It goes without saying that we place great emphasis on diversity, being family-friendly and sustainability

A career at HSHL? Yes please!

Where team spirit counts
Unlike other large higher education institutions and corporations, nobody walks our hallowed corridors in full anonymity. Since we spend a lot of our lives working, a cohesive team is very important to us. And this is exactly what we are reinforcing with our interdisciplinary departments across teaching and science.
Many large and small events allow everyone to get to know each other and exchange ideas. In addition, internal team events are held regularly to continuously strengthen that sense of togetherness.

A compelling range of tasks and the freedom to work independently
Our employees can expect compelling tasks every day which, depending on the job description, may be in science and teaching, but also include technical and administrative areas.
The different academic groups are divided by hierarchical status into:
- Professors
- Research assistants
- Special-assignment teachers
- Visiting lecturers
- Academic and student assistants
A well-organized administration is indispensable for a University of Applied Sciences to function properly.
To this end, employees covered by collective bargaining agreements, civil servants and student assistants are employed in a broad range of technical and administrative jobs, e.g., in the following areas:
- Facilities management
- IT
- Finances and
- HR, as well as for
- University-specific tasks (for example in student services, the organization of examinations and study curricula, in the library or in student counseling and in advisory services).
We rely on short communication pathways and independent working methods across all employee groups. Certainly, our staff and employees themselves know best how they can do their jobs in the most productive way. We are constantly giving our staff and employees the opportunity to have their say, for example by participating in working groups and workshops.
-
Diversity and sustainability
As an employer, we try to represent and promote diversity across all areas of our University of Applied Sciences. With this in mind, we are constantly working to break down stereotypes and prejudices. In mutual cooperation with the Equal Opportunities Officer and the Representative for Employees with Disabilities, we are committed to gender equality and the integration of people with disabilities. Moreover, we are also hiring increasingly greater numbers of employees from abroad.
Our concern with all matters of sustainability truly comes from the heart. This includes the conscious use of resources as well as specific measures. For example, our photovoltaic systems and the fact that we keep a bee colony are worth mentioning here. That is not the only reason why we also offer a corresponding degree program.

Flexible working hours and the option to work remotely from home
Does your most productive and motivated phase start at 9:00 a.m.? Are your children waiting for their parents’ taxi service in the afternoon? No problem! Since we know that not all our employees march to the beat of the same drum, we offer flexible working hours and the option of working remotely from home.
In addition, we are happy to advise our employees and mutually coordinate with them to adapt their working hours to the current phase of their lives.
Working hours are recorded digitally, and any flexitime hours can be "worked off" by taking flexitime days.

Our Academy for Advanced Training also offers various university level formats, ranging from workshops to modular certificate courses and a master’s study program.

Well-equipped buildings
Equipment is a critical factor for a good working environment. Our buildings and laboratories were inaugurated in 2014, and therefore meet the requirements of a modern working environment. The outer architecture forms and the interior design follow the functional requirements of a modern educational and research institute. All laboratories and all of the technical equipment are state of the art. The offices feature characteristically ergonomic workstations. Height-adjustable desks and suitable office chairs are par for the course.

We are proud of our excellent connections to the local public transport network (ÖPNV). It even takes less than an hour to get from both Hamm-Lippstadt University of Applied Sciences campuses to a double-digit number of major cities in North Rhine-Westphalia.
In addition, we have central locations in the cities of Hamm and Lippstadt that are connected to the national highways A1, A2, A44, B1, B55 and B63 and guarantee fast arrival and departure. The paved parking lots directly on campus provide sufficient parking space and short walking distances. E-charging stations for cars and bicycles are also available. Furthermore, our bicycle parking spaces are covered and, thanks to a joint venture with the bike-sharing service nextbike, members of HSHL can hire bicycles from nextbike or metropole.ruhr at discounted rates.
