FAMILY SERVICE

The HSHL defines itself as a family-oriented university and is committed to helping provide a work-life balance. Therefore, our Family Service is happy to offer its support in all matters related to managing your career, family, and private life.

Support for balancing your work with your private life

The Family Service is available to all employees regarding questions on balancing your career, family, and private life. Moreover, we would like to warmly welcome all new staff to the region and provide support with our special advisory services.

Our Services

  • Open consultation hours

    We look forward to spontaneous and scheduled conversations with you during the consultation hours. If you have any questions or would like to schedule an appointment, please send an email to: familienservice@hshl.de.

    Hamm:

    • Mondays from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
    • Room: H4.2-E01-010

    Lippstadt:

    • Wednesdays from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
    • Room: L1.1-E01-090 (Equal Opportunities Office)
  • Online offers for families and self-management

    In cooperation with Voiio, the Family Service offers HSHL employees a wide range of complementary and virtual services, from consultations with a midwife and homework help to individual coaching to consultations for your own financial management.

    Registration is free of charge.

  • Dual career support for newly appointed professors

    For a successful start in the region, we support the partners of newly appointed professors with their search for a job in the Ruhr. This service is offered in cooperation with the Dual Career Network Ruhr. We are happy to take your request if needed.

  • Childcare during the academic year as well as holidays and semester breaks

    We are happy to advise you on questions regarding childcare or to share the contact of the local Family Offices in Hamm and Lippstadt or of the BUK Familienservices, which provides assistance in the search for a place in childcare or individual solutions.

    Kinder HSHL
    The Family Service also organizes a vacation program during the summer break for the children of employees between 6 and 12 years old. It includes exciting children's lectures, experiments, and lots of fun and games. You will find the registration options for Kinder HSHL and further information in our newsletter.

    In addition, a selection of further offers from our partners can be found in the office of the Family Service.

Kids & Parents Rooms

The lovingly furnished parent-child rooms at HSHL are equipped with numerous and varied toys for children aged 0 to 12.

Whether on the carpet or at the table, the parent-child rooms offer stimulating and creative activities for all age groups from 0 to 12 years.

The parent-child rooms are equipped with a full range of office equipment to ensure that working with children is a success.

Just change the diaper? No problem! This can be done in no time at all in the parent-child rooms, which are equipped with both a changing table and a washbasin.

  • Kids & Parents Rooms

    You have an important appointment and your child's daycare cancels at the last minute?  Then you can use of the Kids & Parents rooms at the university. These rooms are equipped with a variety of toys for children aged 0-12, a changing table, a comfortable chair and a sink. The Kids & Parents Room also has a fully equipped workspace.

    Opening hours
    Monday - Friday: from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Saturday: from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

    Booking
    In order to use the room before 8:30 a.m. on the same day, the booking must be made until 7.30 p.m. the day before. To make a booking simply send an email with the date and time you need the room:

    The transponder and locker key can be collected from the libraries during opening hours.

  • Individual coaching for all family aspects

    To support (expectant) parents with their questions, challenges, and requests concerning their work-life balance, the Equal Opportunities team has put together complimentary coaching services for HSHL employees. Three coaches focusing on the following topics are available:

    Work-life balance coaching with Stephanie Poggemöller
    Ms. Poggemöller (graduate in business administration, coach, systemic company advisor) advises on how to organize your family, practice self-care as a parent, and balance work and care. She also helps parents as they return to work.

    Fatherhood coaching with Martin Noack
    Mr. Noack (systemic family advisor) is on hand to advise working fathers on questions and requests related to fatherhood, balancing your career and family, and successful stress management.

    Return-to-work coaching with Sabine van den Boom
    Sabine van den Boom (systemic advisor and coach) provides support for scheduling the return to work, the fair division of household and family responsibilities after returning to work, and successful stress management, among other things.

  • Mobile game box

    If your child's daycare cancels at the last minute, you can bring your child to campus with you. And to make sure your little one is entertained, you can check out the mobile play box. The box contains activities for children from 0 to 6 years of age, and up to 12 years of age if needed. The box can be borrowed free of charge from the Equal Opportunity Office.
