  • Semester fee

Only the so-called "semester fee" has to be paid when studying at the Hamm-Lippstadt University of Applied Sciences. This fee is obligatory for all students regardless of their income. There are no additional tuition fees (as of March 2022).

With the "semester fee" you can benefit from the services of the Student Services Organisation and your student representatives, the General Students´ Committee (AStA). Most importantly, you will receive a semester ticket for the local public transport.

    Always new

The semester fee is due upon enrollment and each semester upon re-registration. The amount is determined each time.

For the summer semester 2025, the semester fee is 289.90 Euro and is made up as follows:

    • Social contribution for the Student Services Organisation: 98.00 euro
    • "Deutschlandticket" (Germany ticket): 176.40 euro
    • General Student´s Committee contribution (AStA): 15.50 euro (information on the hardship regulation)

The semester fee for the summer semester 2025 must be paid by January 31st, 2025. For organizational reasons, we would like to ask you to transfer the amount only after you have received the corresponding request by e-mail from us. It will take a few days to process the payment. We therefore ask you to be patient until you receive the payment confirmation from us.

The semester fee for the winter semester 2025/26 will be announced at a later date (probably February 2025). We would like to ask you to refrain from transferring any amount prematurely.

    Further information

In the event of a precautionary re-registration for a semester, the semester fee will be refunded in full if the student submits the de-registration application and the refund application, which can be found in the Campus Office online account, with effect before the start of the official lecture period. After the start of the lecture period, the fee for the semester ticket will be refunded by 31.10. in winter semesters and 30.04. in summer semesters.

The application for reimbursement of fees can be sent in the form of a pdf file or as a scan/photo by email to studierendenservice.lp@hshl.de for students at the Lippstadt campus and to studierendenservice.hamm@hshl.de at the Hamm campus.

Alternatively, submission by post is also possible.

The reimbursement of semester fees is only possible in the context of exmatriculation or semesters on leave.

Student Services does not carry out the refunds itself, but merely forwards the applications. We are therefore unable to provide any information on how long it may take to receive a refund. In individual cases, this can take up to 3 months.

  • Accommodation in Hamm and Lippstadt

Are you already enrolled or are you going to study at the Hamm-Lippstadt University of Applied Sciences and are you looking for a place to stay? The Studierendenwerk Paderborn (student services) is responsible for the student residences of the HSHL. Additionally, there are a number of private offers for accomodation.

Finding a flat or a room in a shared apartment can be quite a challenge in Germany. More information about finding accommodation in general provides the DAAD website.
In addition, we have compiled a handout with detailed information and useful hints on finding accommodation in Hamm and Lippstadt for your support. You can download it here.

    Private market

Many students in Germany find an apartment for themselves or a shared flat with others on the private market. It might be difficult to rent an apartment without being in Germany, because many landlords would like to meet their future tenants in person before signing the contract. For international students it might also be challenging that some German landlords speak only little or no English at all. Flat advertisements are almost exclusively in German, too. The following list of common terms in advertisements from a private blog can be helpful in your search. Additionally we hereby offer you a German cover letter (including the translation, at your own convenience) which you can use when first contacting prospective landlords.
